Music aficionados and palace lovers alike have plenty to look forward to with this week's events.
Roskilde on Sunday
The line-up on Sunday, the final day of the Roskilde Festival, includes James Blake, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Queens of the Stone Age and Kraftwerk. As is tradition, music lovers over the age of 60 do not have to pay – an offer that this year Michael Bolton, Cyndi Lauper, Alex van Halen and David Hasselhoff are eligible for the first time ever.

Indian Festival
Central Copenhagen will be taken over by the vibrant colours, sounds and tastes of India. A Bengali dance show will kick off at 15:00. At the festival, you’ll find numerous stalls and tents stocked with Indian delicacies, as well as other dance and theatre shows and lectures on Indian culture and spirituality throughout the afternoon. Even the youngest visitors are welcome at the children’s tent. If you’re hungry, pick up a free vegetarian meal while listening to classical Indian music.

Children’s Jazz Festival
The Copenhagen Jazz Festival isn’t just for the grown-ups anymore. Come and be serenaded by three different bands: Wonderbrazz, a six-piece New Orleans-based funk band that will get everyone’s toes tapping; Tiptoe Bigband who will show off the best of contemporary Afro-Cuban jazz; and a special selection of pieces from poet Halfdan Rasmussen and writer/illustrator IB Spang Olsen set to music. The festival takes place outdoors, and the gates open at 9:30.

LP Flea Market
Tired of the typical antique and used clothing flea markets? Stop by Halmtorvet this Saturday and check out Radio Vesterbro’s LP flea, offering roughly 500 different titles to browse. Use the entrance to Øksnehallen from Halmtorvet – the market is located in the first building on the right.

Boxland Bazaar Market
Boxland Bazaar is more than your typical weekend flea market – it’s an amusement area as well. The market is flanked by a beach bar, cafe, pop-up shops, entertainment and more, offering a versatile shopping experience in the heart of Carlsberg Byen. Boxland Bazaar runs every weekend until mid-September, but new shops and stands pop up each weekend, so stop by to see what’s new.

Fredensborg Palace open to the public
Just under one hour from Copenhagen’s central train station is an opportunity to visit a functioning royal place, which is only available over the duration of the summer holiday. Built in the early 18th century as a French baroque palace, it wasn’t until the reign of the ‘father-in-law of Europe’, Christian IX (born 1818, reigned 1863-1906), when Fredensborg became a preferred royal retreat ,and today it is where the royal couple spend the spring and the autumn, celebrate weddings, significant anniversaries, and welcome state visits. Christian IX used to regularly invite his son-in-laws, which included the kings of England, Greece and Russia, to Fredensborg, so the interior is steeped in history. The manicured gardens, which are free of charge to visit, are arguably the most beautiful in the country. Visitors can enjoy a picnic, take a boat ride on the lake and navigate the extensive forested areas.

Chronological Collection of the Danish Kings
While Fredensborg provides visitors with the chance to see how the royals live today, the newly-renovated Amalienborg Palace Museum offers a glimpse of what it was like in the past. Packed full of artefacts from the Danish Royal Collection, the focus is on the royal house of Glücksborgian, which was founded by Christian IX in 1863. No less than four of the studies of Glücksborgian kings are presented here intact as well as the fully-furnished private drawing room of Queen Louise (1817-98), the wife of Christian. Among the art on display are several Fabergé pieces. Additionally, there is an exhibition that centres around an exact replica model of the Amalienborg Palace complex, so visitors can choose the rooms they want to access information about via iPads.
