It has been confirmed that the Thy national park in northwest Jutland will receive a grant of 13.8 million kroner from the Nordea fund.

A good proportion of the money will go towards setting up three new entrances to the park.

The park is often overlooked by tourists, and it accordingly wants to make itself better known to both Danish and international visitors, Metroxpress reports.

“The new entrances should ensure that visitors get a sense of what it is they can come and find here, and how they can best get around the nature park,” explained the park’s chairman, Torben Juul-Olsen.

“We want to make sure that people go out into the wilds,” he added.

Going mobile
Some of the money will also be used to set up an information centre and also to fine-tune the park’s mobile app.

“We have an app that we have to improve and make more user-friendly, so when people have their mobile in their hand, they can, for example, find cycle trails and riding tracks,” Juul-Olsen said.

Tourist destinations in northwest Jutland have been experiencing a period of rapid growth in the number of overnight stays recorded. The park wants to take advantage of this and hopes to have everything up and running within the next three to four years.
