Paint giant expanding into Africa

Danish paint manufacturer Hempel has opened its first factory in Africa to celebrate the company's 100th anniversary this year.

Hempel acquired the factory off South African toll manufacturer TCMC, which it recently bought to better serve its customers south of the Sahara.

The new plant near Johannesburg is one of four new factories Hempel has opened since 2014 and will manufacture coatings for the decorative, protective and marine industries.

"The new factory will allow us to reduce lead times, streamline our supply chain and increase our ability to serve the regional market,” explained Kim Junge Andersen, the company's executive vice president.

Building on a strong momentum
“We created strong growth momentum in 2014 and we will continue building on it.” Andersen added.

The global paint manufacturer recently added new factories in Saudi Arabia, India and the United States to its portfolio.

In 2013, Hempel was represented in more than 80 countries worldwide and had a turnover of 1.2 billion euro.
