Hundreds left without homes after huge fire destroys apartment block in Vanløse

On Friday afternoon, Copenhagen Police received a report that a fire had broken out in the stairwell of Grøndals Parkvej 6A, an apartment block in Vanløse.

It did not take long for the whole block to become engulfed. It took a while but firefighters eventually managed to tame the flames.

Work today continues with the demolition of the buildings. In the meantime, the roads around Grøndals Parkvej have reopened this morning.

Everything to be demolished
“The whole building will be demolished at some point. But the last thing to be demolished is where the start of the fire is believed to be,” said Jesper Bangsgaard from Copenhagen Police on Sunday afternoon, according to DR.

The aim is to be able to enter safely the place where the fire is believed to have started and of course investigate.

All the while, firefighters are still at the scene making sure that the smouldering embers are extinguished.
 90 families to be relocate
All 90 apartments have been destroyed by the fire and will end up being demolished. Many families are being relocated.

For those who were insured, their insurance company is in charge of relocating them. For those who were not, they are being helped by the municipality.

Nobody was hurt in the fire.
