International first for Scene Kunst

Astor the actor follows in the footsteps of his Danish class-mates

It already says Astor on his passport, and it won’t be long before it’s joined by ‘actor’.  Joshua Astor, half-British, half-Swedish and just nine years old, has become the first international student in the five-year history of Zealand’s leading theatre school group, Scene Kunst Skoler, to land a part in a major city musical: Det Ny Teater’s upcoming production of ‘Evita’.

Astor has been attending Scene Kunst Skoler’s international theatre school in Hellerup for the past three years and has performed in a number of shows including ‘Dracula’ and ‘Oliver Twist’.

But while Scene Kunst Skoler has already seen countless Danish students go on to land roles in TV, film and theatre, Astor is the first international student to do so.

Having honed his skills in drama, singing and dance under the careful guidance of working professionals at Scene Kunst Skoler, Josh sailed through the recent auditions and will now be looking forward to treading the boards at Det Ny Teater.

Josh will be joined in the musical by Carl Emil Lohmann and Nanna Magtengaard from the Scene Kunst school in Roskilde – one of ten schools in the region co-founded and run by English actor and theatre director Russell Collins.

“We are very happy and proud that our students continue to land roles in a wide variety of professional productions in Denmark as it’s a testament to our continued dedication to providing the very highest standards of theatre training to all of our young students,” enthused Collins.

“Josh is immensely talented and I’m sure this opportunity will act as a springboard for him to continue his development as a young actor with great potential. We look forward to seeing him on the big stage.”

Scene Kunst´s international theatre school takes place on Saturdays at Rygaards Skole in Hellerup. For more information, contact russell@scenekunstskoler.dk or 5128 3717, and visit www.scenekunstskoler.dk.
