Top Opera | Bess get your skates on

Mar 22-May 10; Opera House, Ekvipagemestervej 10, Cph K; 95-595kr

Directed by Scottish opera and musical director John Doyle, Gershwin’s moving jazz-folk opera depicts 1920s Charleston with brutal integrity. The story follows Porgy, a handicapped man who tries to rescue Bess from her violent boyfriend. The story takes place on fictional ‘Catfish Row’, which comes to life thanks to set and costume designs by Liz Ascroft. When it premiered at the Danish Royal Theatre in 1943, it was played by an all-white cast. This time Porgy and Bess will be performed by an all-black ensemble.
