The Danish architecture firm AG5 was been awarded the 2014 International Property Awards architecture prize for the first stage tower of its sustainable office complex in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta.
The building, designed in co-operation with the Indonesian architect firm PDW, is being built with funds from the Danida Business Partnerships, the business program for Danida, the Danish development corporation.
"We are proud to have received the award and it is important recognition for us as a practice. We are witnessing increased interest from Asia in the way we in Denmark think and work with integrated energy design," says Marc Wilson, the head of the project and partner in AG5, in a press release.
The tower, named the Gran Rubina Tower, consists of 23 storeys and uses 30 percent less energy than typical skyscrapers in the region.

Sustainability with benefits
The project is being built in such a way to ensure optimal viewing from inside the building and limit outside heat from getting in. The building also has a number of roof gardens on various levels and a green area surrounding the complex.
The minister of trade and development, Mogens Jensen, said that the building confirms Denmark’s strength within sustainable construction, and that it will benefit Denmark and the developing nations that it is exported to.
“A strong Danish development program can open doors for Danish companies,” Jensen said in a press release. “So we must strengthen the co-operation between Danida and Denmark’s commercial interests.”
The tower is the first step of an 180,000 sqm office complex that is expected to be completed in 2018.
