Barely a year into what the Brits fondly remember as the Elizabethan Age, week-long celebrations took place after the coronation of Frederick II on this date in 1559. Frederick personally led his army onto the battlefield during the Seven Years War where he tried in great vain to conquer Sweden and his insane cousin, Eric XIV.
