Today is a military flag day recognising the Battle of Fredericia in 1849 when the Danes beat the Schleswig-Holsteinian rebel army and German troops in the deciding battle of the First Schleswig War. The Danes suffered more casualties than their foes, but ended up taking almost 1,700 of their enemy prisoner.
