Born on this day in 1870, King Christian X ruled Denmark from 1912 up until his death in April 1947.

The son of King Frederik VIII became affectionately known as ‘Rytterkongen’ (‘The horseman king’) for his solitary daily rides through the streets of Copenhagen during the Nazi Occupation in World War II.
