Some Copenhagen residents will see neither post nor packages tomorrow as about 500 employees of Post Danmark in Copenhagen are planning a wildcat strike.
The Amager, Frederiksberg and Copenhagen City distribution centres will be affected by the walkout of the 500 employees – all of whom are bicycling postmen.
The work stoppage was precipitated by a round of layoffs in which 35 employees from the three centres lost their jobs.
“They are unhappy with how management handled the layoffs,” postal workers’ representative Thomas Møller said.
Back to the table
Møller said that the workers could not understand why the layoffs affected only those whose livelihoods depended on their jobs, and that part-time employees weren’t hit.
Møller wouldn’t say how long the strike might last, but that he hoped that management and employees would sit down later tomorrow and resume negotiations.
