Although proceedings for the re-unification of North Schleswig (South Jutland County) with Denmark had begun months earlier, it became official on July 9 when King Christian X reinstated Southern Jutland back into Danish territory. To mark this momentous event, Christian X is said to have ridden across the old border on the back of a white horse, crossing over at Frederikshøj.

EU leaders toughen stance on return of irregular migrants

EU leaders agreed last week to speed up returns of migrants irregularly entering the bloc. Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen is pleased, describing Denmark’s previous attempts to pitch a stricter asylum and migration policy to the EU as “like shouting into an empty handball hall in Jutland”.
