Nordhavn Metro link extension a step closer

City Hall has greenlighted looking into two possible extensions of the M4 line 

Local politicians at City Hall have agreed to look into the possibility of extending the M4 Metro line deeper into the Nordhavn waterfront area. 

The city is investigating options for two possible extensions of the line, which currently ends at Orientkaj Station. 

“Opening up Nordhavn to more Copenhageners means they need easy access to public transportation,” said mayor Lars Weiss. 

“An extension of the metro line to the outer Nordhavn area will link the area to the rest of the city, reduce the need of a car and also conserve Nordhavnstippen nature area.”

Two or three stops?
Of the two possibilities being entertained by the city, one will extend the M4 line by two stops, while the other will do so by three stops.

As illustrated in the image above, the two-stop option (in blue) will extend the line to Levantkaj and then Nordhavn C, while the three-stop option (in red) will extend to Levantkaj and then on to Krydstogtskaj and Fiskerikaj. 

The extension analysis is expected to take 12-14 months and the result will be presented to City Hall along with a recommended option.

The Nordhavn extension is scheduled to be completed sometime in 2030 and service about 35,000 residents and 28,000 jobs by 2062.
