On this day way back in 1252, King Abel of Denmark died during a military campaign against the Friesians.

Abel, who was the son of King Valdemar II, was the duke of Slesvig from 1232-1252 before becoming king.

Abel enjoyed the shortest reign of any Danish monarch, reigning for just 1.5 years from 1250 to his demise.
