Today’s Date: Gunnar ‘Nu’ Hansen born

The voice of football’s first words upon arrival in the maternity ward were “Goaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllll!!!!!!!!”

On this day in 1905, the legendary sports journalist Gunnar ‘Nu’ Hansen was born in Copenhagen.

He rose to fame during the Olympic Games in Berlin in 1936 – a legacy that he maintained during his commentating on the national football team’s matches later on.

Hansen has a square named after him in Østerbro.
