Warmer waters bringing new species of fish to Denmark

As the waters around the North Sea get warmer, new species of fish are calling them home.

Simon Madsen at the North Sea Centre said Danish fishermen are bringing in an ever-increasing number of exotic species.

“Atlantic bonito, tropical dory, octopus and even sea horses are being found,” Madsen told DR Nyheder. “Warmer temperatures are bringing in species that are normally found in places like the Mediterranean.”

“If these are new species that can be developed into a commercial fishery, I only see it as a positive thing,” said Niels Kristian Nielsen from fisheries organisation Hirtshals Fiskeriforening.

“These are new species of fish and there are no quotas.”
