Leader of criminal network tried in Denmark’s largest case of human trafficking

In total, 22 men have been charged with forcing Romanians to commit financial crimes

A 47-year-old Romanian is being tried at the district court in Lyngby for orchestrating Denmark’s biggest case of human trafficking.

The man is one of the top leaders of a large criminal network responsible for luring some 300 Romanians to Denmark and using their identities to commit financial crimes worth 40 million kroner.

In total, 22 people have been charged in the case that the Danish police has dubbed ‘Operation Wasp’s Nest’.

Today’s hearing addressed 14 of the defendants who, according to the prosecutor Jette Malberg,  all played a role in “milking the Danish society”.

At previous hearings, several of the defendants have pleaded guilty.
