It’s time to come out of the cocoon and enjoy the festivities

Come May and the season of festival is upon us. The city is gearing up to host various festivals that are aimed at catering to people from all walks of life. So get ready to experience the culmination of the gush of adrenaline rush, euphoria and gaiety. 

 

Performance Festival ‘Mellemrum 2012’ – Experience new sides of Vesterbro over the next three weeks through nine different performances with the help from around 40 locals. The festival takes place every other year in Copenhagen, and now it’s the third time, but the first in Vesterbro. Leave your bike at home and explore a new side of Vesterbro.

International Theatre Festival – This new theatre festival focuses on contemporary international stage art with three handpicked performances by international female artists under the title Global Emotional Dialogue (GED). Sanja Mitrovi? performs the stand-up tragedy A Short Story of Crying (Mon 20:00 & Tue 19:00) asking if private space still exists in public. Brina Stinehelfer performs her intercontinental, international theatre piece Skype Duet (Wed & Thu 20:00) where two live performances – in New York and Copenhagen – are connected via Skype. Finally you can experience Anna Mendelssohn in her solo-climate-summit Cry me a River (Tue 20:30 & Thu 18:30) about the mediated world’s climate rhetoric. See three women who are setting new standards for performing arts in Europe.

Folk festival in Nørrebro – Globalt Forår (Global Spring) festival celebrates and support young people’s involvement in developing society, both locally and globally. It features ecological food, sports tournaments, a Thai boxing show, photo contests, debates, concerts and much more. All profits go to young people in Nepal and Jordan through the organisation Actionaid Denmark.

Cph International Literature Festival – The festival features interviews, debates and special events – most of which are in English. On Friday (20:00-22:45) meet Pulitzer prize-winning author Jennifer Egan and the Canadian thriller writer Jeffrey Moore. From 20:00, Moore will be in dialogue with Bo Green Jensen, followed by a short break for wine and chocolate, after which the night ends with some words of wisdom from Egan.

International Children’s Festival – This children’s spring festival includes theatre, dance, modern circus and other types of performances – for kids as well as adults. This is the place to not only experience some of Denmark’s best children’s theatre – you will also see some of the best shows from other countries.
