The buzzing city of Sydney combined with state-of-the-art learning facilities at University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) is continuing to bring international students to Australia.
Education is one of Australia’s biggest exports. More than 600,000 international students chose to study in Australia each year, according to Australian Education International.
Sydney is a popular destination for international students. It offers an outdoor lifestyle with easy access to beaches and bushwalks as well as 240 days of sunshine per year. UTS is perfectly situated to allow students to enjoy all that Sydney has to offer – with a campus in the heart of the city.
However, it’s not just location that puts UTS firmly on the map. UTS is now ranked 29 in the QS Top 50 Under 50 in the QS GLOBAL index of newer universities and has been awarded five stars in the latest QS Stars ratings, internationally recognising it for its high performance in research, graduate employability, teaching quality and infrastructure. To add to this, in the 2010 Excellence in Research for Australia Initiative, the Australian Government benchmarked 80 per cent of UTS research at world standard or above world standard.
The University is fully embracing an innovative approach to learning, as Hael Kobayashi, Executive Director of the UTS Creative Innovation Unit, summarises: “UTS is at the forefront of innovation – as a young university it pushes boundaries and encourages creative thinking to prepare graduates for the workforce of the future”. This is continually acknowledged by students, too, as Bachelor of Law and International Studies student from France, Alizée Labbe says: “When I looked at the program UTS looked a lot more practical. Also the way [the course] is structured at UTS is much better.”
Similarly, Master of Science in Internetworking student from India, Shruthi Mysore Vijayaraghvan, explains: “You’re not just exposed to one kind of thinking or one aspect of working. Initially when I came here and was selected [as a sponsorship student] they said I was in tune with what they expect in Australia. But still, when I came here, there were differences, people are taught differently. They are more accustomed to thinking in a multicultural group, tackling problems and resolving issues – over time you learn to rise up to that level and you learn to work in that kind of environment. It makes you more dynamic and adaptable.”
