Aarhus police arrested a 44-year-old man yesterday afternoon who they believe told a woman that he had a bomb in his backpack.
“After an intense investigation, we have arrested the person we believe made a bomb threat,” Carsten Dahl from the East Jutland Police told DR News.
A woman raised the alarm late yesterday morning, telling police that she had met a man near Bruuns Gallery who told her that he had a bomb in his backpack. Police then cordoned off the Aarhus city centre for three hours yesterday afternoon.
Police issued a warrant for a person they described as a Danish man with grey hair and short beard wearing a green half-length jacket and carrying a black backpack.
During the investigation, police detained and released three other men matching that description, but apparently not involved in the incident.
Upon his arrest, police said that the 44-year-old told them that he had no specific reason for making the threat
Police praised the efforts of both the woman who raised the alarm and residents who reported those resembling the description of the suspect.
“The consequences of such an incident in public spaces are extensive,” police wrote in a press release.
