Following on from last week’s focus on arty markets, we switch our attention to some of the old-favourites. From Christiania to Nyhavn, there’s practically one on every street corner, keeping the city warm with lashings of gløgg, æbleskiver and hats that you wouldn’t give a second’s glance to any other time of the year. 

Gammelgaard Arts & Cultural Centre
Gammelgaard Arts and Cultural centre sets the Christmas mood as they turn up the fireplace in the main house and invite you inside for the annual Christmas market. Offering plenty of Christmas-cheer with jewellery, glassware, knitwear and more for reasonable prices, it’s the perfect place for the family as the kids enjoy creating their own decorations while Mum and Dad sip mulled wine in the café.

Nyhavn Christmas Market
During the festivities, Nyhavn is transformed into a picturesque Christmas marketplace. Stroll along the old harbour to find entertainment, food, craft, mulled wine and decorated stalls that offer traditional Danish Christmas treats such as æbleskiver and gløgg. On November 16th taste Danish Christmas brews to the sound of harbour jazz for just five kroner.

Christmas at Hamlet’s Castle
Kronborg Castle invites visitors in for Christmas festivities, Renaissance style. The Arts and Crafts Market fills the rustic rooms with over 40 stands selling unique Danish crafts, design and visual art.  After discovering the perfect Christmas present, you can turn your attention to your tummy and enjoy warm glögg and doughnuts at the Food and Drink Market. There will be regular creative workshops and even the chance to climb aboard a horse drawn carriage.

Tivoli Christmas Market 
If the Christmas shopping hasn’t been enough of a carnival, be sure to visit Tivoli gardens to sample the Christmas booths decked with trinkets, delicious hot drinks, culinary delights and great gift ideas.
