One-eyed Willy and the Quest for the Huge Chest (yes, that is exactly how it is meant to sound) is this year’s Crazy Christmas Cabaret. If Monty Python did a pantomime, it would probably look something like this.
The Crazy Christmas Cabaret has become a tradition in its own right since beginning in 1982. Not something to be taken seriously, McKee and co use dance, singing and slapstick to appeal to a wide audience that includes many Danes.
Not suitable for children (previous titles include Tarzan – the king of the swingers), this year’s performance tells the story of a monocular pirate and his search for a particularly big but elusive chest.
With the help of some home-knitted mermaids, some swashbuckling seamen and a foul-mouthed parrot called Dick, One-Eyed Willy embarks on his adventure.
Look out for the annual appearance of Dr van Helsingør from Elsinore, McKee’s long-running character whose command of English always has the audience in stitches, and expect plenty of wordplay, cross-dressing and topical gags.
Joining McKee (back after a break last year), Crazy Cabaret fans will be pleased to see that leading man David Bateson and dame Andrew Jeffers are both onboard.
A bottle of rum may be required to get you to join in with the sea shanties, but the goofy gags will leave you smiling.
