A 46-year-old homeless man was yesterday sentenced by a court in Glostrup to three months in prison for taking 928 free train rides between 2008 and 2014.
Train operator DSB also asked for nearly 700,000 kroner in compensation, but the court made no decision regarding the financial element of the case.
The homeless man was late turning up for court on Tuesday, and the prosecutor asked for a default judgement. The defence protested, and the defendant did eventually turn up 15 minutes late.
No warning
Standing with his backpack and sleeping bag, the 46-year-old man openly admitted to the charges against him.
“When it gets cold, I get on the train and fall asleep right away,” he told the court.
The defendant said that in six years he had not received a single warning from DSB that the matter would be reported to the police.
