Although proceedings for the re-unification of North Schleswig (South Jutland County) with Denmark had begun months earlier, it became official on July 9 when King Christian X reinstated Southern Jutland back into Danish territory. To mark this momentous event, Christian X is said to have ridden across the old border on the back of a white horse, crossing over at Frederikshøj.
