Danish club has the youngest team in Europe

Elsewhere, FC Copenhagen landed a new head coach today following the quite surprising appointment of Jess Thorup

For the second year running, FC Nordsjælland has been ranked as having the youngest team in Europe following the first five games of the Superliga season.

According to CIES Football Observatory, FCN’s average age of 22.7 years is unparalleled in the top 20 UEFA leagues – just ahead of Famalicão (23.1) and Den Haag (23.4).

At the opposite end of the spectrum, Cypriot side Anorthosis had an average age of 31.1.

Lyngby and FC Copenhagen had the oldest sides in the Superliga with average ages of 27.8 and 27.2, respectively.

FCK say Jess to Thorup
Elsewhere, FC Copenhagen have moved on from legendary coach Ståle Solbakken by bringing on Jess Thorup as his replacement.

The move has come as quite the surprise, given that the 50-year-old only recently signed a long-term deal with Belgian outfit Genk.

Thorup, who has also enjoyed fruitful spells with Gent, FC Midtjylland, Esbjerg and the Danish under-21 side, has inked a deal until the summer of 2024.
