SAS cancels thousands of flights this summer

Cancellations brought on by staffing challenges and issues relating to suppliers, according to beleaguered airline

With COVID-19 winding down across much of the planet and society gagging to get out into the world again, this summer was supposed to be a big kick-start for the aviation industry. 

But for SAS, the good times will have to wait.

The airline revealed this week that it has cancelled 4,000 flights from May to August – roughly 5 percent of the airline’s total summer flight schedule.

Passengers to be rebooked
SAS said it was forced to nix the flights due to staff shortages brought on by the corona pandemic.

Supplier issues was another reason cited by the airline, which had seen an increase in flights in recent months. 

The cancellations affect flights from all of Scandinavia, and all impacted passengers will be rebooked, said the airline.
