Copenhagen 2021: The undisputed HIT of the LGBTI+ festival so far

The theatre has been relentless, and there’s more to come, as four brand new plays will be premiered tonight and tomorrow

Power to their elbow at the Copenhagen Queer Theatre Festival, one of the true mainstays of Copenhagen 2021 so far! Organisers HIT Copenhagen have been making their city proud.

While most other venues in the Danish capital have only started firing on full cylinders today in the build-up to the climax of WorldPride and EuroGames, the theatre festival has been running non-stop since the opening day.

And what a baptism of fire that was, as they’re still reeling from ‘Berghain’! Fortunately for the Copenhagen public, the show will be back for a full run at Bøssehuset Christiania from August 27, as it wowed its audiences, both at Folketeatret on August 12 and then at Skuespilhuset four days later.

Four servings of hot meat please
Looking ahead, though, the main highlight is yet to come. Starting tonight, and concluding tomorrow evening, the festival will present not one worldwide premiere, but four!!

All week, creatives have been under the clock dreaming up plays as part of the HOT MEAT initiative. They’ve been busy, busy, busy.

And don’t miss the Glory Box Cabaret in the Folketeatret Foyer tomorrow evening (bar opens 18:00, main event 21:00) where a livestream from Moira Finucane in Australia will be complemented by live dancing.  Pre-booking is required here.

Get out of bed fellows, Riley’s in the house
Finally, as if that wasn’t enough, it has been confirmed that Riley McCarthy is going to personally appear at a special performance of ‘Southern Bedfellows’ tonight.

McCarthy, who has been taking part in the HOT MEAT Artist Residency, will present a staged reading of the play at 19:00 at Folketeatret, followed by a Q&A.

The play’s dramatist will read the role of Haywood and AnneLise Nielsen the part of JoEllen like they did in the version directed by Christoffer Berdal for HIT Copenhagen in June.
