Divine punishment for all our sins in 1634

October 11: The great flood

On 11 October 1634, floods hit Schleswig-Holstein in southern Denmark, killing around 15,000 Danes and Germans.
The ‘Burchadi flood’, which was caused by a storm tide, was at the time attributed to divine punishment – although ill-maintained dykes were the more likely cause.
