The Ohio-born, nine-time winning Grammy Award singer-songwriter began his musical journey just five years old. And in just a short period of time, Legend has created a brand of soul in a class of its own.
Early on in his career, it was his distinctly tender vocal style, charismatic performances and ability to play the piano that drew a bevy of major artists to collaborate with him.
Working on chart-topping numbers such as Kanye West’s ‘All of the Lights’, Alicia Keys’s ‘You Don’t Know My Name’ and playing the piano on Lauryn Hill’s ‘Everything is Everything’ made him a star on the American pop scene in his early 20s.
The dawn of his solo career came in 2006 with the warmly received neo-soul album Get Lifted. Forging close ties with maverick male artists such as West and Andre 3000 and the record label GOOD Music has meant that Legend has always pursued starkly original concepts through the genre of soul – a characteristic that can be heard in his latest record, Love in the Future (2013).
However, Legend isn’t the only legend playing in Copenhagen on October 21.
And although tickets for Bryan Ferry (19:30; Plænen, Tivoli) have already sold out, that doesn’t mean you can’t look online and pay over the odds to see the ‘70s mega-icon and frontman of the legendary Roxy Music, who is renowned for his elegant cut on rock pop.
Sartorially dressed, Ferry belongs to a legendary generation of fading male singers and will deliver a performance that includes material from a career that has spanned five decades.
