Embrace the brutal, the bloody and the beast inside

As the darker days approach and Denmark slips once more into the shadows, film lovers are provided with a unique opportunity to appease their inner beasties. Lashings and lashings of horror is on the menu at the end of this month when Cinemateket and Cinemaxx, in collaboration with Another World Entertainment, serve up Blodig Weekend (Bloody Weekend): a small, fast-growing festival aimed at genre fans and filmmakers to showcase the best and bloodiest international films unlikely to be seen on Danish screens.

Blodig Weekend will present recent, bigger budget numbers alongside more modest productions and a host of free short films. This means that films like the Evil Dead remake, which mysteriously disappeared from Danish release schedules, and Byzantium, Neil Jordan’s first foray into vampires since his classic adaptation of Anne Rice’s genre-busting Interview With A Vampire (1994), will be shown alongside beloved cult classics like Dario Argento’s Cat O’ Nine Tails. There are also Q&As with several actors and filmmakers, and for buyers and sellers, there’s a market to host numerous projects seeking finance and distribution. See the website for full details.
