Three charged for pony decapitation

Suspects could face a year in prison if found guilty of the slaughter of a horse on a popular tourist beach on North Zealand

Police have charged three suspects for the mistreatment of a three-year-old Shetland pony that was found dead on a beach in the coastal village of Tisvildeleje on Sunday.

According to Frederiksborg Amts Avis newspaper, the suspects used a knife to disembowel and decapitate the horse on Saturday night in the popular tourist destination.

The newspaper reports that the horse belonged to the chef and writer Camilla Plum and that the horse’s head was found in her garden.

“I called the police on Sunday morning to report my horse missing that had been walking loose around my summerhouse for around ten days,” Plum said. “I’ll leave it up to the police to find out what happened to it.”

The suspects were identified on Monday after police conducted interviews with local residents who witnessed three people taking the horse to the beach.

They are now being charged under animal cruelty laws and, if found guilty, could face a year in prison.
