Sales of multi-ride tickets extended a year

Criticism of electronic ticket system and mounting pressure keep punch cards alive

Although sales of the klippekort, the familiar multi-ride bus and train ticket, were due to stop at the end of June, fears that the electronic travel card Rejsekort scheduled to replace it remains riddled with problems have given the klippekort a new, one-year, lease on life.

The move came after what was described as a ‘crisis meeting’ between Greater Copenhagen regional transit authority Movia, railway operator DSB and metro operator Metroselskabet – three of the firms behind the troubled Rejsekort.

Lawmakers from several parties had called for klippekort sales to continue. MPs insisted on a guarantee from the transport minister, Henrik Dam Kristensen (Socialdemokraterne), that Rejsekort would work before sales of the reliable cardboard tickets were stopped.

“I'm pleased that the klippekort will continue to be sold,” Socialistisk Folkeparti (SF) spokesperson Jonas Dahl told TV2 News. “It is central to SF philosophy that public transport is an easy and convenient choice and there are just too many problems with the Rejsekort.”
