Some love it and others love to hate it. Sure, it may be just another commercial holiday, but is it really so bad to set aside one day a year for your significant other and make them feel a little bit more loved? Of course not. Now, you can always opt for the classic weekend getaway or a fancy restaurant, but this list is for those who like to keep it low key.

If you want to go see a movie but want to avoid the sappy Hollywood love stories, then Vester Vov Vov is just the place. It’s a cosy little café and cinema, all rolled into one. Its programme usually features some of the bigger, critically-acclaimed hits, but also a fair share of independent and foreign films. The intimate feel of the small cinema will make for a perfect Valentine’s date.
Love at Nationalmuseet
On Friday and also throughout the weekend, you can stop by the National Museum and combine the celebration of love with history. The museum has created a pamphlet called ‘the Heart Guide’ that will guide you to all the romantic historical artefacts in the museum. Over the weekend you can also enjoy a special Valentine’s Brunch Buffet at the museum’s restaurant. The buffet will feature a variety of dishes made from aphrodisiacs, including chocolate, honey and basil, but also – somewhat surprisingly – mustard, parsnips and peas.

If you can’t get to a restaurant – “last minute Valentine’s Day reservation” is somewhat of a contradictory term in itself – why not bring the restaurant to you. Cofoco Le Marché has designed a special Valentine’s Tapas Box that you can take home with you. It features a variety of delicious dishes such as Caesar’s salad, chocolate mousse, charcuterie and cheeses. The box costs 250kr and is enough for two people. This way you’ll skip the crowds, but still won’t have to spend hours in the kitchen, pretending you know what you’re doing: it’s a win-win situation.

Sometimes all you need to bring you and your partner together is a little teamwork, so why not head to the kitchen and bake something together. Of course you could just go out and buy a cake, but on Youtube anyone can learn to make a cake. There are few things more romantic than baking delicious sugary treats together and feeding each other frosting while gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes. Really, you’ll feel like you’re in a Nora Ephron movie. Check out the Youtube channel Cookies Cupcakes and Cardio for some great tutorials on how to bake and decorate cakes.
