Cph St Patrick’s Day Parade

Rådhuspladsen; Mon 14:00-18:00, entertainment 15:30, parade 17:00; free adm

There is nothing like St Paddy’s Day to lure us out of the pub and into green socks, shirts, wigs and undies.

After all, as the organisers of the parade here in Copenhagen, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, assure us: “On St Patrick’s day, everyone is Irish!”

So if you would like to try being Irish, join the festivities this Monday at Rådhuspladsen. Just remember to wear something green and turn up well in advance of the parade leaving at 5pm.

And even if you forget, no worries, as a whole range of green hats, rosettes and more will be on sale in the square.

The stage on Rådhuspladsen is hosting entertainment from various Irish folk bands and dance shows starting at 3.30pm, but children can come and get their faces painted for free while you enjoy Irish coffee and hygge from 2pm.

Maybe you can even invite Saint Patrick himself for a whisky, who is this year being played by legendary performer Tom McEwan.

And then at 5pm sharp, a 45-minute parade will leave (and return to) Rådhuspladsen.

Among the performers will be Gordon Pipes and Drums, who will this year delight perplexed bystanders with their professional folk skills, the dancers from the Dark Green School of Irish Dancing, and the bodhrán band with the traditional Irish hand drum.

Come and wear your greens instead of eating them – the more the merrier!
