Ministry launches competition to curb bicycle theft

The initiative will run from June 23 until August 10
The transport minister, Magnus Heunicke, has announced that his ministry intends to launch a competition that challenges Danes to come up with ideas and proposals for how to prevent bicycle theft at train stations.
The competition will be judged by a group of experts within the industry who will evaluate and ultimately decide upon a winning idea.
“It’s not alright that cyclists have to fear that their bicycles are stolen at a station on a daily basis,” Heunicke said in a press release.
“A targeted effort is required to tackle bicycle theft, and we therefore all have to come up with good ideas.”

Everyone's invited
Bicycle theft at train stations, where about 70,000 bicycles are parked nationwide every day, is a massive issue in Denmark.
The contributions will be added to the government’s bicycle strategy, which will be presented later this year and aims to encourage more Danes to bicycle – for the benefit of public health, the environment and traffic congestion in the cities.
The competition, which will be launched on June 23 and run until August 10, will accept ideas from everyone. More information about the competition will be revealed in the near future.
