Strike sidelines Øresund trains today

A strike of Swedish train workers is affecting airport train traffic between Denmark and Sweden.

Trains between Copenhagen Airport and Malmö are cancelled today. Negotiations between the Swedish transport company Veolia and union Seka ended yesterday afternoon without a resolution.

Danish train operator DSB will be transporting passengers between the airport and Hyllie outside Malmö. Conditions may be less than optimal, especially for those travellers who are carrying large amounts of luggage, as space on the buses will be limited.

The labour conflict was triggered by Veolia’s announcement that 250 employees will be laid off.

The laid-off workers can reapply to get their jobs back, but the union said that the rehiring would result in significantly degraded conditions – something the workers refused to agree to.
