New Israels Plads opens today

Following a two-year long renovation project, the new Israels Plads in the city is ready to open today at noon, even though finishing touches will be laid on until August, Politiken reports.

Bar, games and DJ
The day starts out at noon with activities for children and later for everyone when a bar opens and DJ Tue Track plays a set. A basketball match with VIP guests will also be held on the square today.

The square, which connects the Torvehallerne market to the green oasis of HC Ørstedsparken, is going to be the largest square in Copenhagen – even larger than Rådshuspladsen – but this time the City Council has focused more on creating space for physical activities.

On a surface raised 30 cm above the ground there will be room for games and sports like handball, hockey and basketball.

Renovating Israels Plads has cost 129 million kroner.
