Sand, sea and a sign in space

Gunilla Klingberg’s project A Sign in Space started life in Spain as a sand print.

During the low tide season in Laga beach, the graphic star pattern was impressed on the beach via a heavy iron roller pulled by a tractor. The large scale pattern is intended to look like a mandala: a cosmological diagram that represents the universe and its cycles of life, death, and rebirth.

Klingeberg’s goal was to explore and fuse everyday consumerism with spiritualism. The museum will transform the high light into Klingberg’s cosmic beach, which both challenges and exploits the gallery’s space limitations.
