World Cup party in Fælledparken

The six-day party will include a series of football activities and competitions as well as World Cup screenings

Not qualifying for the 2014 World Cup will not stop Copenhageners from celebrating the world’s favourite sport.

The Danish Football Association and TV2 will be co-hosting a World Cup party at Fælledparken from July 8-13.

The first couple of days will kick off at 3pm with a series of activities including street football matches, skill competitions and, for the less physically inclined, foosball tables.

The winners of these competitions will be awarded prizes such as Sony DJ headsets, Coca Cola merchandise and gift certificates for Unibet.

Be sure to get onto that Unibet website quickly though, as the activities are scheduled to conclude only shortly before the World Cup semi-final screenings begin.

Tuesday’s match sees tournament hosts Brazil take on Germany in a rerun of the 2002 final, while Wednesday’s semi is a repeat of the 1978 final: Netherlands vs Argentina.

But the real action doesn’t start until Saturday, when the World Cup Penalty Shootout is scheduled to take place.

So far 36 teams of five have registered – you can still do so anytime before July 10 at dbu.dk as long as you’re over the age of 16.

Later that night on the big screen is the bronze medal showdown between the two semi-finals losers, and then on the following night, the World Cup Final.
