Denmark donates 20 million kroner to help Ebola-stricken countries

Contribution will be spent on getting the epidemic under control and stopping it from spreading further

Denmark has donated 20 million kroner to the international humanitarian organisations currently helping the west African countries worst hit by the Ebola outbreak.

The organisations have experienced great difficulty reaching the countries, so the UN has accordingly created a so-called air-bridge to ease access to the most affected areas.

Half of the Foreign Ministry's donation has been earmarked for the air-bridge, which will primarily transport medical personnel and equipment in and out of the worst affected areas in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.

Half going to Ghana
The other ten million is specifically for Ghana to help the country prevent Ebola from spreading within its borders.

“There is a fear that Ebola can spread into Ghana, which is an important hub of the region," explained Mogens Jensen, the minister for trade and development, to Jyllands-Posten.

"Therefore, it is imperative to support local health clinics and prevention activities in the country. And since we already assist the Ghanaian health system, we have decided to allocate some of the aid for Ebola-prevention,”

Denmark has already given more than two million kroner to Danish humanitarian aid organisations to combat the Ebola epidemic in west Africa.
