Quickly forgotten

Two very different scientists have the same goal: to find the ‘cure’ to ageing, enabling humanity to live forever. A lofty ambition then, of which the fulfilment is, we are lead to believe, not only achievable but imminent.

Aubrey De Grey is an eccentric Englishman who speaks rapidly and often illegibly. His dishevelled appearance – that of a homeless, beer-swilling Gandalf – belies his relatively young age and alleged brilliance.

Bill Andrews is a tall, Californian health nut in his early 60s with perfect teeth – he couldn’t be more unlike his contemporary.

Impressively mounted, the film incorporates a rich soundscape and handy animations. However, when what was presented as a fascinating look at legitimate research reveals itself to be an expose of two dubious characters with questionable motives, it’s hard to shake the impression that your life has been needlessly shortened by 79 minutes.
