New agreement to speed up integration of refugees

Just one week after the prime minister, Helle Thorning-Schmidt, announced in her New Year's speech that refugees should get jobs, start an education or do community work, the government has agreed with the country's municipalities to get the newcomers started quickly .

According to the agreement, municipalities will receive more support in order to improve and streamline the refugees' integration process while making better use of their waiting time at asylum centres.

Active citizenship
Refugees will be sent into the job market as soon as possible or encouraged to start an education.

Public institutions will partner up with private companies to create so-called 'active citizenship' opportunities for the newcomers.

Faster, simple and less bureaucracy
A faster evaluation of qualifications should allow refugees to use the training or education they already have.

The government wants to simplify the integration system and will therefore remove unnecessary bureaucracy to speed up the process.

Finally, the government will support health screenings of all asylum-seekers.
