Known as ‘the master of modern photography’ by some, Vancouver based artist Jeff Wall, 68, is a product of the alternative-skateboarding culture of the 1980s, whose work you might recall on the covers of Sonic Youth’s The Destroyed Room: B-sides and Iggy Pop’s Avenue B.
Fast, loud and colourful, Wall’s iconic images define the last decades of the 20th century. From action shots to carefully installed still-lifes and portraits with intriguing compositions, his work draws the viewer in by telling stories ‘without the need for subtitles or footnotes’.
