Ai Weiwei, one of China’s best known artists, has announced he will pull his exhibitions from the Aarhus Art Museum and in Copenhagen at the Faurschou Foundation gallery to protest the Danish government’s passing of new laws that allow authorities to confiscate valuables from migrants and delay family reunifications for refugees for up to three years.
“I am in shock that the Danish government has decided to confiscate valuables from refugees,” wrote Ai on Twitter.
“Shameless”
Ai said he “regretted” having to take such dramatic action and apologised for any inconvenience.
Jens Faurschou from the Faurschou Foundation said he supports the artist’s decision and regrets the decision made by the Danish Parliament.
Ai wrote on Twitter that the passing of the new asylum regulations was “shameless”.
