Three hurrahs for the speaker of the house

Pia Kjærsgaard, the grand lady and co-founder of Denmark’s right-wing party Dansk Folkeparti, is turning 69.

Kjærsgaard, who was head of the party from 1995 to 2012 and spearheaded the party’s rise to the top of Danish politics, was born on this date in Copenhagen back in 1947.

She is currently the speaker of Parliament.
