Copenhagen Arena names Live Nation as operator

International events company will be responsible for booking concert acts and sports and cultural events

The Copenhagen Arena, a project that has been in the works for 12 years and counting, took another significant step today with the announcement that international events company Live Nation has been chosen as the arenaÂ’s operator.

Live Nation was selected over the American company AEG Facilities to operate the venue, the City Council announced.  The Copenhagen Arena is being developed by the council in co-operation with the property investment fund Realdania, each of which will pay 325 million kroner towards its construction.

“I am glad that we have found an operator with international experience in the operation of arenas,” the deputy mayor for culture and leisure, Pia Allerslev, said. “It gives a good starting point for good events, so Copenhagen can match up against cities like London, Berlin, Stockholm and Hamburg.”

Live Nation operates several other European facilities, including Wembley Arena in London, the O2 in Dublin and the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam. The company, which is the largest promoter in Denmark, will be responsible for booking concert acts, sports events, and other cultural events for the 15,000-seat arena.

In addition to naming Live Nation as the operator, the City Council also announced today that five design teams had been chosen out of a field of 41 to make through to the next round of the selection process. The winner of the design tender will be announced by the end of next year, and the arena is slated for completion in 2015.
