Tea is not just a posh British 5 o’clock ritual. A good pot of tea can relax, reinvigorate or help focus. And there are plenty of shops that offer so many varieties (green, black, red, chai, etc), it’s mind-boggling. Apart from the leaves and tea-bags, most of these shops also offer cups, mugs and all sorts of accessories necessary to enjoy tea.

teSelskabet – A tiny, cosy shop with a friendly staff and lots to choose from. Established by a man with passion, it’s a feel-good place with a great selection. They offer tea, love and harmony. At least that’s what it says on their delivery van. It’s not very close to the centre – the nearest train station is Bernstorffsvej St – but Gentofte Cinema is just around the corner, so perhaps a nice cup of tea before an early screening?

AC Perch’s Thehandel –  Some 177 years of experience of making tea is impressive and has to count for something. Perch’s tea looks, smells and tastes wonderful. Even the box the tea comes in looks elegant and high-brow. The tearoom requires reservations. The shop is located just off Strøget, so after shopping or a walk, it’s a good way to warm yourself up from the inside.

Chaya – The smell of tea is overwhelming at the boutiques. There’s a special cupboard, where you can smell and taste many different types of tea, and decide on the spot which one you like and will buy. The assortment is impressive and consists of tea, coffee, wine and many other delicious treats. Thankfully there are two shops, so you can just choose the one closer to you, or take your bike on the train, if you don’t own a car.

Tante T – A pleasant place that is both a tea store and a tea room. The founders of the shop are tea enthusiasts, which is reflected in the atmosphere and the collection of goodies. Sometimes reservations are required! It’s close to Central Station, so relatively easy to find and a good place to meet up in the afternoon.
