With autumn now approaching, many might assume that the number of corona cases is escalating.
But in fact, the opposite is true, as Statens Serum Institut has confirmed that the number of new cases of COVID-19 fell by 19 percent between weeks 29 and 30, the seven days ending on July 24 and 31.
The incidence rate during Week 30 was 183 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while wastewater tests also confirm there has been a large fall.
Nationwide testing in Week 30 confirms that BA.5 is still the dominant variant, accounting for 92 percent of all cases, BA.4 six percent, and BA.2.75 just one solitary case, compared to five each in Weeks 28 and 29.
Fewer ending up in hospital
There has also been a marked decrease in the number of hospitalisations. During the same time period, they fell by 23 percent.
The age group most likely to end up in hospital remains 70 to 89-year-olds.
However, there has been a significant fall in the number of fresh cases at care homes – after a sudden rise was reported in early July – from 5.1 percent of those tested in Week 29 to 3.2 in Week 30.
The age group most likely to have their infection officially registered remains the 50-69 age bracket, which of course suggests many youngsters with corona go undetected.
