Norwegian teen sentenced to prison and deportation for bomb threat

Police fail to find “prank” humourous

A 15-year-old Norwegian boy has been sentenced to 30 days in prison and deportation from Denmark for a bomb threat he made at Copenhagen Airport on August 12. He is also banned from returning to Denmark for six years.

On 12 August, the boy was returning to Norway after a Danish holiday. While waiting at the check-in counter, he handed a bag to an airport employee. Electronic beeping sounds were coming from the bag. The teenager said to the counter employee, in English,

“I am sorry I have to do this to you.”

The 15-year-old, who was described as Middle Eastern-looking, then ran away.

No joke
There was no bomb in the bag, but the female airport employee took no chances and triggered an alarm. The boy was arrested a short time later.

When he appeared before the magistrate, the boy said that it was all just a prank done so that he and a friend could make a video to post on Youtube. The boy said they hoped that the video would generate some money.

Danish authorities were not amused and sentenced the boy to prison and deportation for making a bomb threat at the airport.
