DTU dominant in Dutch winds

A team of eight students and two supervisors from DTU have won the unofficial world championship for wind-powered vehicles, Racing Aeolus Den Helder 2015.

Competing on a 5.3 km track on a dyke in the Netherlands, the DTU team managed to beat the world record holders from Canada with their mechanically-propelled vehicle, the WinDTUrbineracer.

Unideal conditions
In spite of weak winds, it achieved a speed equal to 62.51 percent of wind speed and won the race. The Danish students also fielded one electrically propelled vehicle, but it was unable to complete the race.
